Are You Trying to Kill Me!?

Baby rabies!

Baby rabies!

Liam got his first taste of rice cereal yesterday and he wasn’t too impressed. I can’t imagine why considering how delicious it looked!

New Tricks

Liam has a couple of new tricks.  Actually, they were new a couple of weeks ago, but I am slow!  He loves to make himself look like he has rabies by blowing bubbles.  He is always using his mouth to stick stuff in or to make sound effects.  He likes to squeal and make a sound that we refer to as the pterodactyl because it sounds like something off of Jurassic Park, but his favorite sound to make is the raspberry.  His favorite time to do this is while he is eating which creates quite a mess, but what are you going to do?  He is also rolling over now.  He still prefers to scoot himself places rather than rolling over, but now that he is doing both there is no more leaving him in one place.  Let the good times roll!

Laughing Liam

Liam is a very happy baby and is always smiling and wanting to play, but he doesn’t laugh a lot.  He prefers to scream instead of laughing.  I know it sounds strange, and it is, but he will grin this huge open-mouth grin, and then make a high pitch scream instead of a giggle.  He is also very ticklish, so he will do this a lot when I tickle him.  I had Tom video him this morning, and luckily we got some real laughs out of him and not just happy screaming.

He is proving to let me know his likes and dislikes now more and more as his personality is emerging.  He really likes his soft, fuzzy green blankets, his MAM pacifiers, watching lights and Disney music.  It is so funny, but if he is crying all we have to do is give him his blanket and play “Kiss the Girl” from The Little Mermaid and he calms right down.  He also likes “Under the Sea” but not quite as much.  He definitely dislikes having his face washed or wiped off, tummy-time, and being left by himself.  He is quite content to play on his playmat if he can see me in the other room, but if something is blocking his view and he feels that he is by himself then the tears come.  Silly baby!

Big Beefy Boy

Liam went into the doctor’s yesterday for his 4 month check-up and he weighs 16 lbs!  He is 26 1/2 inches long!  I think he inherited the tall Gibson genes or I just have fast growing boys.  He was great getting his shots, but now he is cranky and I can tell he doesn’t feel well.  It is true that it is always harder on the mom, although he must be hurting to be so fussy.

He is smiling all the time now and giggling.  He is ticklish so I can’t resist getting a few good tickles in everyday.  He has found his favorite blanket which he now pulls over his head to sleep.  I don’t like it very much, but he is doing it everytime I put him down for a nap.  He is playing with rolling over, but still seems more content just grabbing things and discovering how they taste.  He is truly a watcher and a listener. He loves listening to music and hearing us talk.  He also loves to sit in Grandpa’s lap and watch NCIS!  I’m not too thrilled about it, but he zones in and it is hard to distract him.  Needless to say, we try not to have him around the tv too often.  Well, I hear him starting to fuss so I guess I have gotten as much down as I can right now!

Rubber Duckie

Now we are back home and missing everyone again.  Sometimes I just don’t understand why I had to have the independent spirit that took me across the country from my family.  Liam is getting so big and is playing with rolling over.  He hasn’t got it yet, but he is very close.  He is grabbing at everything and cooing all the time.  His favorite past-time is taking a bath.  He goes nuts in the tub so I end up taking two showers.  I love giving him a bath so much I thought I would share it complete with washcloth to maintain his modesty!

Happy Baby

Getting smiles out of Liam is really hard work and don’t even get me started on trying to make him laugh.  He seems to be a serious baby, but we have found that he is also a thrill-seeker.  He loves it when Tom throws him in the air.  Tom is the best at getting him to laugh.  I guess I need to give up the dream that at least one man in my house will find me funny!

Liam had a great first Christmas in Pittsburgh.  He was a great flier.  He slept most of the way out and back, and the rest of the time we just played on the plane.    Liam had a great first Christmas in Pittsburgh.  I must say that he ate VERY WELL!  We had a white pre-Christmas, Christmas, post-Christmas, New Years and post-New Years.  Let’s just say that it didn’t stop snowing the entire time I was back east.  It really made me thankful for Cali weather.

It was great seeing all the aunts and uncles, and Liam has some great cousins to teach him the ropes…as long as his cousin Benjamin doesn’t gouge his eyes out.  He was fascinated by little Liam.  I loved being able to spend so much time with my family.  In the past, I have always had to rush back to school or work, but this time I was able to stay as long as I wanted.  Liam and I got to help with all the holiday baking and I finally got to decorate my own gingerbread house after years of only hearing about how much fun it is. (Mine was the best looking house!)

This is SO embaressing

This is SO embarrassing

I'll act like an angel while the camera's here...

He looks like an angel now, but wait until you leave...save me Mom!

Stranger things have happened!

So we woke up this morning and discovered that during the night we got snow!  I guess that is snows maybe once a year up in the Sacramento area, but never this much.  It is usually melted by late morning but this stuff looks like it might hang around a while.  The schools have closed and no one is driving anywhere.  It would be a perfect day for me to go out and get some shopping done because even though it has been a few years, I still remember how to drive in the snow!

Besides the suprise of the snow, the holiday season has been a busy one.  We spent Thanksgiving with Tom’s family so Liam got to have some quality Great-Grandma Gibson time.  Then, the Sunday after Thanksgiving, Liam and I drove back down to Pleasanton for a week so that I could train the new person taking my job.  We got to stay at Lisa’s house who is officially Liam’s surrogate Omi!  We had a wonderful week being back in the Bay area.  I miss it so much already.  I actually cried driving back!  How sad.  Karl was very concerned with the baby and would wake up first thing in the morning and ask for him.  We decorated the Christmas tree and then went to see Santa at the mall.  To see the picture of all of us go to mysantapics.com and type in the personal online code: 337-072-r8hw2.  I love the way that Emi the dog is looking up at Liam.

Now we are onto tackling the plane ride to Pittsburg to spend Christmas with my family.  I am so excited.  I will be there for three weeks and finally be there for all the fun leading up to Christmas!  I can’t wait.  Hopefully Liam decided that he likes planes and is a good traveler or else it will be a long day flying cross country.

Oh, and I can’t believe that Liam is two months old already!  Time flies.

Career Day

I succumbed…

I have to apologize to Liam, but as a new mother, I have already succumbed to having my child’s pictures taken at JC Penney.  Before he was born, Tom and I both said that we didn’t want to be the type of parents that dragged their children to have their pictures taken all the time.  Tom, because those are painful memories of growing up (although he managed to pull a smile in all the pictures that I have seen at his parents’ house) and me because I am cheap and would rather try to take them at home!  Sadly though, it took two weeks and one persuasive Nana and the results are the the following pictures.  Not too shabby if you ask me, but hey, I’m just the mom!
