What We’ve Been Up To

June24

Well, summer if finally here and the heat decided to join it.  I am currently trying to keep cool inside while Liam naps.  Nothing exciting has been going on lately, but I did get some cute videos that I wanted to post.  Liam does this thing with his blanket where he will be crawling around and occasionally head for his blanket for a little break.  He stops and buries his head in the blanket and stuffs the blanket in his mouth and hums.  For some reason, I find it to be one of his cute, little quirks.  Liam and I did drive down to the Bay area to spend a few days with Courtney and Kristin.  It was great to be able to get in some girl time and just talk and hang out.  I finally got to make Masaman curry for her which is only appropriate considering that it was she and Greg that took me to the Thai restaurant in Provo where I tasted it for the first time.  Kristin and Liam just hung out and chilled with Sesame Street.  They also decided that sharing pacifiers was a great idea.  It was fun to look down in the shopping cart at Liam and see Kristin’s bright pink paci in his mouth!

Tom celebrated his first Father’s day.  He got some new chairs and tables for his office.  I know, not exciting, but they are really nice.  We chose a soft green color and so far all the patients love them.  One of Tom’s favorite food comments is, “You know what would make this better…bacon.”  He says it about everything.  I guess some people just love bacon.  I managed to find him a chocolate bar with bacon pieces in it, so for Father’s day he got a card that said, “Now you can’t say what would make this better!”  We had friends over with his parents, and had a cookout complete with his favorite potato salad and chocolate cake and vanilla butter nut cake.  I think he had a good day. I am so grateful and blessed that he is Liam’s father.  I couldn’t ask for better.  He is never too busy to spend time with him and you can tell by the way Liam’s face lights up into a huge grin any time Tom walks into the room that he loves his daddy.  Thanks Babe for all you do.

We are getting ready to head out to Fresno this weekend to spend  a few days with Tom’s grandmother.  It was her birthday this past week, so we thought that we would do and see her.  It also gives Tom the chance to finally show off all the house renovations that he has been bragging about for the past two years!

Liam is now pulling himself up to standing and cruising around the house.  He is so proud.  I wonder how much time I have before he walks!

You would never guess by her expression that she wanted him to sit beside her!

Weekend Away

June8

We spent this past weekend in Tahoe.  It was great to get away and have a weekend to relax in all the fresh air.  I got in some great runs and Tom got to be lazy and hang out in the cabin so we were both happy!  Liam was a little trooper and slept through both nights that we were up there.  Unfortunately, he hasn’t taken that back home with us.  I guess it was the fresh mountain air!

While we were there Liam started some new tricks.  He sticks his tongue out of the side of his mouth and just bites down on it.  I guess it doesn’t hurt him because he keeps doing it, but it makes him look like he is concentrating very hard when he combines it with his famous furrowed brow.  When he doesn’t have the tongue and brow combo though, it just looks goofy.  Either way, I love it. He is also bouncing to music now.  He has always liked music, and almost needs it to get to sleep, but recently he has started rocking on his bum when it comes on.  My boy’s got rythym.

We got some new toys around the house.  Liam is now hanging out in his baby pool which he likes to no one’s surprise.  He loves his baths so it was a no brainer that he would like hanging out in a warm pool.  We also got a baby swing which he loves.  He gets a huge grin every time he is in it.  He isn’t super thrilled about the baby play yard that we got.  He doesn’t like being confined.  I told him that he needs to remember that he hates being behind bars and not to ever break the law because he wouldn’t fare well in jail!  We need the play yard though because he is now crawling everywhere and getting into everything.  The video with the dog bone is an illustration of his favorite toy.  Don’t worry, it was a brand new bone.

He has also started shaking his head “no” at everything.  I guess he has heard it so much that he is starting to understand what it means. Hopefully with this new gate to keep him confined a bit, he won’t hear it so often!

Just a side note.  I finally took Tom to Costa Vida for our date night.  I have been meaning to get him there ever since I learned that we have one in Roseville.  It is the closest thing to Cafe Rio ( the only thing that I insanely miss from UT) and it was AMAZING!  I think Tom is hooked, of course how could he not be?  The stuff is like edible heroin.  One taste and you are addicted.  Yummy!

Feeling the Changes

May23

Liam is changing so fast these days.  He is keeping me so busy, hence the lack of new blog posts.  He is now crawling all over the place and it amazes me how magnetic things like electrical cords and the dog bone are.  He crawl isn’t very developed yet and looks like a little crawl and then scoot.  I am glad that he finally has it down even though it meant that I had to start baby-proofing the house because I was getting tired of all the frustrated crying that he would do because he couldn’t quite figure it out. The other day Wrigley was chewing his bone next to Liam and it was all Liam had eyes for so I took it and threw it into the next room thinking that it would take care of the problem.  Yeah, sometimes Mom isn’t so smart.  I went back to cleaning up the kitchen for I swear only a minute and when I looked up at Liam, he was chewing on the bone!  It was disgusting but he looked as though he was thoroughly enjoying it!  I guess Wrigley thought I was playing fetch when I threw it, and he brought it back to where Liam was sitting and his quick little hands finally got what they wanted.  He also wants all the electrical cords in the house.  He can be surrounded by numerous great toys, but he wants to make a beeline (for Court if you are reading this…”Wouldn’t it be more like an “I” line”) to the electrical cords or dirty shoes.  I am beginning to think he is part dog the way he goes after shoes and bones.

He is also having fun trying new foods.  We have found that when he loves a food, he LOVES a food.  These include: yams, pears, apples, bananas and prunes.  He will get very vocal and frustrated if you don’t feed him fast enough and his wrists and feet continually twist around while he eats.  I had to include a video of it because it makes me laugh.  When he doesn’t like something he gags and starts spitting the food out by the third bite when he realizes that what is going in his mouth isn’t changing.  These foods include straight cereals of any kind, peas and squash.  He tolerates carrots and green beans really well, but they don’t illicit the twisting appendage response.

We have been spending more time outside now that the weather is nicer and Liam loves the sunshine.  He loves our daily walks and just sits and watches from his stroller.  There is a nearby park that I love to walk around because the path goes around a lake, but there are tons of geese there and they have all had babies.  While I love watching the little families waddle around, the adults are now extremely protective and will hiss and flap their wings and chase you away.  I have had them take flight and follow me on more than one occasion.  Although nothing beats the time I was running around the same lake and a big blackbird flew out of nowhere and clawed my scalp.  It felt very Hitchcockish and I was scanning the skies and brandishing a stick until I was finished running.

Liam is now babbling a lot more and will tell you off if he is upset.  His voice gets a very angry tone as he blurts out, “da da da du du du.”  It makes me smile every time.  I hope I don’t have a developing attitude on my hands.  Tom and I are doing great.  We just enjoyed a visit from Tom’s grandmother and his brother and sister-in-law, Rich and Jessica, this past weekend.  Liam loved the attention and it was nice to see family.  We are looking forward to heading to Tahoe in a couple of weekends with some friends of ours to take in nature and hopefully some kayaking.  I think Liam and I might enjoy the beach while Daddy explores the lake.  I don’t think he would sit still in a kayak!
